ABOUT OUR CLUB
Melton Mowbray Tennis Club was officially formed in April 2017 by a local Solicitor and tennis enthusiast Nigel Haynes along with Tennis Coaches Di Burdett and Brent Horobin who have over sixty years of combined experience of playing and coaching within Leicestershire. It is the only club in Melton with the sole purpose of playing and promoting tennis.
Following negotiations with the Melton Borough Council and Everyone Active, plus the management company running the Sports Village, it was agreed that Melton Mowbray Tennis Club could be formed utilising the four, floodlit council-owned courts based at the Sports Village, Burton Road, LE13 1DR, on the site of the former King Edward VII School
The Club very quickly established that the courts were in a poor condition and thanks to local sponsors and a local firm, Premier Line Marking, we were able to have the courts cleaned and repainted. This enhanced the look of the courts and with the addition of new nets, scoreboards and windbreaks the Club began to take shape.
In 2019 we took an even bigger step forward with the erection of our very own clubhouse, again installed by a local supplier Sporty Co. Members and visitors alike have been magnanimous in their praise of our clubhouse and the Club is indebted to another local Company Samworth Brothers who made a very generous grant to the Club which enabled the clubhouse project to come to fruition. The Clubhouse is Air Conditioned and was donated by Wolseley uk climate centre.
With a large Junior and Senior membership we have, of course, been able to enter tennis teams in the Leicestershire Leagues and we have had outstanding results with the Club collecting twenty five league titles over the three seasons we have been competing plus collecting the prestigious Mixed Leicester Mercury Cup on two occasions.
The management committee is fully committed to further improvements And, of course, the Court Resurfacing programme is the prime project at this point in time. Because of our size we obviously have the benefit of flexibility that some larger clubs may not have and we are proud of the fact that we feel we can cater for many types of member whether 4 years old or eighty years of age, beginner, intermediate or more advanced. Our club coaches , Di Burdett and Brent Horobin have been joined by Ryan Parmar, a young man with a tennis pedigree of playing County Tennis from a very young age and we feel this team is ideally placed to cater for every standard of player. This Coaching team arranges both Individual and Group sessions, catering for Social, Team, Beginner or Team players of any age and ability
An important, Club goal is to be an all inclusive one, both on and off the court and again we have made huge steps on this front over the past two years with our Disability programme, This is linked to the nearby Birch Wood School and sees us take sessions for sixty plus youngsters each week and in addition we also arrange extra sessions on Saturdays linked to i-Play 30 scheme, with all the sessions targeting Children and Adults with learning, sensory and physical disabilities.
Our aim is simply; to Encourage and Support Everyone who joins our Club and to do our very best to Make it the Best Possible Experience on and off a tennis court.
